Part of the History of the

School of Military Survey

From Trevor (Taff) Richards

The following is an e-mail from Trevor to our Chairman

Hi Chris,

Just to confirm that it was 1949 when we moved from Longleat to Hermitage. I have made contact with a former pal of mine who eventually became R.S.M. of 42 Regt. namely R.A.Carter ,he is in possession of a booklet written by one Capt.M.J.K.Davies entitled

A History of The School of Military Survey 1949 to1959

(printed and published at the School), which coincidentally on page 49 states that the first of the advance parties (of which I was one) entered the camp in August 1949 and that everything was up and running by Christmas.

Unfortunately I do not have a copy, but Tom Hartley does and I am sure he would be forthcoming should anyone be interested.

So if any celebrations are arranged for 2009 and I am still vertical I WILL BE THERE.

Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, and many thanks for all the work you have done on our behalf

best wishes
Trevor (Taff) Richards

With thanks to Trevor  for this contribution
